Getfwd, not sure to understand
« on: May 10, 2010, 04:14:01 PM »
Hi,
first please excuse my poor english.  :-[
Then, a HUGE thanks for the nedi's team, a very great tool.  8)

I read a lot of post here but, sorry, I'm not sure to understand how discovery work and I have some (stupid ? :-\) questions.

Discovery
Is it based :
  • on arp request ?
  • on snmp  (is it a passive scan) ?
  • on cli (is it an active scan) ?

Seedlist
I understand that the seedlist file is a file to help nedi to find some devices. Am I right ?
Do you write exact IP address or can you write some subnet or regexp such as 10.1.2.* ?

Getfwd
And last question : what is the getfwd option ?
If the value is cli, does nedi connect to cli and execute some standard commands on IOS ?
How can I see if the connection is working ? Which command are execute ?

Thanks a lot for you help.

Thanks, here some answers:

NeDi's desinged to be quiet, thus only using discovery protocols, OUI vendors matched in arp tables or routes. http://www.nedi.ch/discovery:first

http://www.nedi.ch/discovery:configuration

As stated in config, yes cli tries to login. -d will show you more info in login process and even create log files in newer versions...

OK great.
Thanks for your answer. I'm very glad to use this tool, I hope my team too.
I try to contribute to this project with some answer in this forum.
Is there a future version with a active tool such as a traceroute based too ?
