USB Serial on Windows
« on: December 02, 2009, 12:59:28 PM »
If you are (like me) forced to use Windows on one of those new notebooks without a proper Serial Port, you probably want this batch file (yes, I do those too once in a while) sitting on your desktop:

Code: [Select]
reg export HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\SERIALCOMM com.txt
type com.txt
del com.txt
more

Replace more with putty, if you're as lazy as I am  ;)

It was hard enough to find drivers for Vista/7 for these stupid things... but as long as I plug it always in the same USB port, it keeps its COM port number.

Old one I know, but I figured it's time for an update:
