No backup of configs with ssh from Cisco Switch
« on: January 23, 2009, 10:32:49 AM »
Hi All!
Thanks I would like to thank Remo and the team for this great tool, wich looks like to have all the features we need.
I'm quite new to linux and especially to Nedi.
We have Ubuntu Linux
Quote
2.6.27-9-server
and installed Net::SSH::Perl as described in nedi/inc/libcli-netssh.pl
Also I uncomment the output.log and input.log

My problem I can not backup configs via ssh.
Telnet works, but is not a solution for us.
I tried this:
In the GUI Device status CLI Port lamp is red (Port23)
I click on retry login,
then Lamp is still red, but whole line is green and above is written
Quote
1101cs01's CLI Update OK

What does this click on retry login make?

then I start nedi:
Quote
adminuser@nedi:~$ /opt/nedi/nedi.pl -bdt 195.222.111.111
LWP loaded
Net::SSH::Perl not available
OUI:   13396 NIC vendor entries read
Dev:   15 devices read from nedi.devices
Link:   0 links (WHERE type = "S") read from nedi.links
195.222.111.111 added for testing

Only testing, nothing (except messages) written! at /opt/nedi/nedi.pl line 150.

I use tcpdump to see, if there is a ssh connection and also I debug aaa authentication on the switch.

Unfortunately mostly nothing happen.
but sometimes I see in tcpdump a ssh connection, but don't see anything on the switch debug.
In the output and input log I also don't see anything.

As I mentioned above, telnet works fine, but no solution for us.
Any ideas?

Kind regards
Marcel

Hi All!
Is there a possibility to debug in Nedi the ssh connection?

Yes, unfortunately I haven't had the time to document it properly. Search the forum and you'll find my answers explaining how to turn on CLI logs. Time is still what I don't have these days, but I promise to write a CLI debugging section after I receive a donation/amazon item with the keyword CLI on it. Deal, anyone?

They're not getting used enough so I don't realize when something's off. Hope it's better now and Vielen Dank!

I'm having the same problem.  SSH stays red while telnet works just fine.  Is their any workaround to get the configs through SSH?

Great program by the way.

Hi!
For me it's still the same.
Telnet works fine, but not a option.
ssh doesn't work. My problem, I don't see, where the problem is.
On the switch I don't see any login.
I will try this week, to further examine what is going on.
Does anyone have any hints, where to search and what else to try?
I wish you alla nice day!
Regards
Marcel

I noticed on mine it says port 23 for devices that only accept SSH.  23 os for telnet.  Should be port 22 for SSH.

Hi!
In the GUI on the Device Status side, there is a row CLI.
In my GUI the lamp is red with Port 23. Then click on the button on the right side.
With this you refresh the CLI communication as far as I understood.

Now you see hostname's CLI Update OK in the grey field.

The Lamp in the CLI row stays red, in my case.

Hope that helps a bit.

What button on the right?  I have one on the top right named retry login at next discovery.  Is that the same one?  Mine stays red as well.  We need to make it green somehow. lol

I realized only recently, that IE messes up my carefully crafted div alignments  :-\

Anyhow, for all having problems with CLI stuff, you've got 2 options:

1) Be patient. The upcoming release is the last one I put any efforts into the current CLI routines. Net::Appliance seems to be much better and some community members made great contributions already. It's just a matter of merging their code, with the next release(s).

2) If #1 doesn't apply to you, search the forum. I posted quite some hints about turning on logging and narrowing down the issues. However I understand it's a very annoying issue and it lacks proper documentation. I'll put up a troubleshooting guide on the wiki, f I find the time...
