same hostname on different domains
« on: March 12, 2014, 12:58:55 PM »
Hi,
we have several sites e.g. Offices on the world with switche which are managed from HQ.
This locations have there own Networks with own VLANs also for there is a management VLAN for the switches.
So we have more than one switch with Hostname SW01, SW02 adn so on.
FQDN is different so each FQDN is unique.

I can not see how to get this in Nedi.
At the DB's device Table, i only see the Hostname. So it seems that nedi can not handle this.

Is it possible to have more than one switch named equal?

OK.
I found a workaround.
I use the mapping feature in nedi.conf.
There is a section where i can map IP Numbers to e.g. different Hostname.

That seems to do the Job.

But, best thing i think would be to work with IDs inside the DB instead of the Hostname as ID.
Or using the FQHN as Primary Key.

There's also the -F parameter for nedi.p if that helps:

usage: nedi.pl [-i|-D|-t|-w|-y|-s|] <more option(s)>
Discovery Options  --------------------------------------------------------
...
Actions -------------------------------------------------------------------
...
-F      Use FQDNs for devices. Allows "." in dev names (can mess up links!)

With such names you could also resort to IP addresses instead using -Ff (the 2nd if keeps the whole IP as name, not just the 1st number)
Please consider Other-Invoices on your NeDi installation for an annual contribution, tx!
