Harry: could this be handled by forwarding related syslog messages of those routers? If you want to know the actual interface status, you could use Devices-Interfaces filtering on ISDN and bookmark it...

michieltimmers: Check optimize in User-Profile, then go to Devices-List and customize as needed. The columns will stay within the session now, but you can simply click on the notepad icon on the top right toolbar to create a shortcut on the bottom of the admin message.

Good idea. There's a warranty field in Devices-Stock (and someone even contributed an automated verifcation with Cisco support contracts) already. So an additional EoL field would fit in. Question is, how to get reliable EoL dates across all vendors?

Glad you ask :) Rauchi made an extensive effort to translate the context help into German for 1.0.6 or so. Of course those files could use a refresh to reflect all the changes since then. Mduling and I have been discussing a potential documentation project as well, whereas I'm not sure about the platform, though....pdf, wiki, parchment? Ok, forget the last one, but pdf might be interesting in the days of ebook readers. Especially since, I've tried wiki before and it didn't really take off...

EoL dates are part of EOL notices sent regurlay by vendros and are available on their respective website.
I know Cisco ones can alos be downloaded in order to update its LMS Prime toolset in order to create EOL reports.
The full automation routine might be a huge work, but if we can start with a list of models and provide manually EOL date it will be a good start I guess....

Cheers,
Nick

For documentation I would suggest a wiki:
  • easy accessabile
  • linkable
  • editable by everyone
  • only small documentation in the application nessesary

Or you could revive http://sourceforge.net/projects/nedi/

Well, that's hoping the wiki will be edited by you guys. I won't find the time, I'm afraid :-/

I've used dokuwiki, anything other suggestions?

Nick, do you have a link?

I think it depends on your personal preferences. Most common wikis are [1]

  • DokuWiki
  • DrupalWiki
  • MediaWiki
  • TikiWiki
  • TWiki
  • Foswiki

Twiki is a bit complicated to use, I like MediaWiki (database based) but DokuWiki (file based) seems to be also a good choice [2]. I think it's important that most active members and you decide (in a survey?) which one to choose.

[EOx Dates feature]
On Cisco side the PSIRT_EOX_OFFLINE.zip file can be download here:
http://www.cisco.com/cisco/software/release.html?mdfid=282253606&flowid=5144&softwareid=280775123&os=Windows&release=4.1.1&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest#

I think you need a Cisco.com account. The file is a 21Mb compressed text/XML file including up-to-date Eox notices since almost the begining.

Regards,
Nick

What about something simple like markdown:  http://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/basics  Not sure where the source files to be edited would be kept though.  Could we use a git repo?

In any case I think someone should be designated to edit and refine the contributions into a coherent whole.  I'd be glad to help out if I can.

I'll get back to you on that :)

To all, just so you see what great things will make it into oh9. How about radar maps for quick troubleshooting. The area should be a triangle in the upper half on "healthy" connections...

And finally proper OSM maps even leveraging the very cool openweathermap API...and for my US customers, yes it comes in Fahrenheit too ;)

Here's what I do on a Saturday @36C ( almost 100F) while enjoying a beer ;)
I think a beta will be available rather sooner than later...

New features:
  • Filter shows actual column names
  • Population per device
  • Free access ports (not used for 30 (or whatever is set as retire) days)
  • Whether a config was written after changes and it's backed up (including size and changes). Note that in the list below, I'm filtering on devices which actually support reading config status (write not equal change timestamp)

Gorgeous !!!

But, please, use two different values for device retire and port retire.
Or, better in my mind, if this report (or anything it is) will be made real time, please provide an input field to change it dinamically.

P.S. what are the parameters you use to consider a port "unused since # days" ? How you solve the "switch reboot" problem?
I'm curious...

Access ports unused after x days is nice.
Does this also include vlan interfaces/stack ports/loopbacks?
Would there be a way to configure what ports are included in the unused report?
(I'd like to only include physical port names like GigabitEthernet*, FastEthernet*,TenGigabitEthernet*)

I could of used this 3 days ago... :)
