Small problem with SNMP Read
« on: October 05, 2012, 04:53:38 PM »
Dear Nedi Staff / rickli,

First of all. We like the new futures of the NeDi.. The functions have been improving alot.
However we still got some issues when we want NeDi to full- read all data.

Sometimes it doesn't read switchess, we want it to read all devices attached to the one its scanning.
Like we can't see on several switches when a port is up/down. The description is being readed and filled in. But the status isn't.

Could you please give me the correct 'nedi Cronjob' commands. What you recommend and should do the above listed things.

Additional Question:
The script of NeDi, when there is a bug. Is it possible that it can send a flood over our network? Like a loop trying to reconnect to our core-router?

Since the usage of the new NeDi we had several problems with some locations of our network.
At the same time we got this error:

Code: [Select]
Use of uninitialized value in string eq at /noc/nedi/inc/libsnmp.pm line 290.
Use of uninitialized value in string eq at /noc/nedi/inc/libsnmp.pm line 290.
Use of uninitialized value in string eq at /noc/nedi/inc/libsnmp.pm line 290.
Use of uninitialized value in string eq at /noc/nedi/inc/libsnmp.pm line 290.
Use of uninitialized value in string eq at /noc/nedi/inc/libsnmp.pm line 290.
Use of uninitialized value in string eq at /noc/nedi/inc/libsnmp.pm line 290.
Use of uninitialized value in string eq at /noc/nedi/inc/libsnmp.pm line 290.
Use of uninitialized value in string eq at /noc/nedi/inc/libsnmp.pm line 290.
Use of uninitialized value in string eq at /noc/nedi/inc/libsnmp.pm line 290.
Use of uninitialized value in string eq at /noc/nedi/inc/libsnmp.pm line 290.

Doesn't mean it's NeDi's fault. Could be an DDoS from other users.
Cronjob code: */30 * * * *   nice -n 19 /noc/nedi/nedi.pl -dNWp > /tmp/nedi.lastrun 2>&1

Please help us. If you need more information please ask.

Sincerely yours,
Mikey van der Worp

This sounds like incomplete .def files. The error looks like there's no IFalias defined, which can happen if you use an old .def file. I'll start with a new tutorial on creating .def files soon!

NeDi is designed to not create too much traffic and I have no reports that it caused device failures (even on bad SNMP implementations)...

Usually nedi.pl -p does the job. What kind of devices are you using?
Please consider Other-Invoices on your NeDi installation for an annual contribution, tx!

We are mostly using Cisco.
Routers and Switches.

Actually we only use Cisco when we talk about routers and switches.
Also there is still a problem showing ip address.

It does show 0.0.0.0 but doesn't show /22 or /21...
So for example it shows up like:

Code: [Select]
127.0.0.1/
Could you help us setting up the .def files or sent them as attachement and tell me where to place this.

Sweet, NeDi SNMP reads everything now again.

Still a few bugs like the ranges are not showing up correctly.
And the description and Alias are not good.

The values are the other way around

Description = Alias.
Alias = Description.

Sincerely yours,

rickli

Can you post the .def? Maybe others using the same devices can help sorting it out...and I promise the defgen tutorial is next on my list!

On some devices this happends:
Code: [Select]
Prepare (CLI)  ----------------------------------------------------------------
PREP:No working user
DISC:Cli bridge fwd = no working user
