CDP discovery in Cisco NX-OS misses real device names
« on: December 13, 2011, 07:32:45 PM »
Hi,

we are starting to deploy nexus switches to your backbone. nedi discovers the neighborhood via CDP not quite correct. The device overview page tells me:

Top 10 links:
Interface  Neighbor
Et12/1     TBM14398905 on Et12/12 (Vlan0 FD)

The according entry in the cdpCacheDeviceId is:
CISCO-CDP-MIB::cdpCacheDeviceId.436207616.3538945 = STRING: bbswitch11.example.com(TBM14398905)

any ideas?

Greetings,

Michael Schwartzkopff.

Oh really? Has anybody else seen this? In the good old CatOS days line 1425 of libsnmp.pl picks the switch name, which followed the SN in brackets. Now it's the other way around... Quick fix, use $1 instead $2

Hi,

thanks for the reply. Your solution fixes the problem for the device in question. What should we do if we have CatOS and Nexus in our network?

Thanks.

Good question, decommission CatOS switches   ;)

More seriousely, finding a pattern on the SN to choose one or the other would do. There might be other models benefit from it as well...

Maybe Nexus users can post their (anonymized) CDP IDs to find the right regexp? "sh cdp nei" should do the trick!

Hi

yes we have the exact same problem with our 7000/5000 Nexus(es) and CDP. We use nedi 1.07beta.

thx for the quick fix  ;)
