Discovery / Re: About MSM controlled AP CDP discovery
« on: June 11, 2013, 02:34:55 PM »
I got some test, and i can see after configuring LLDP, MSM410 send always CDP & LLDP info.
HP switch, see what you get (I hope, cannot have a completely test because I can do test only in our all cisco site)
In the mixed switched site, I've got a MSM410 connected to HP switch, then the HP switch to a Cisco switch.
I see in the interface description the MSM410 twice: in the HP with the LLDP description set into MSM760 controller, and also in the Cisco interface, in the same port where HP switch was connected, with CDP name as serial.
I've test anything, the MSM410 was always discovered by Cisco switches by it's serial number with CDP protocol. HP see MSM410 with LLDP protocol and the name assigned by the MSM760 controller (I suppose, i'm not able to change this settings where we have HP switches - I only get the situation as is.)

EDIT: I can provide you every snmpwalk/info you need about this problem. I'm searching some HP firmware changelog, but i cannot find anything about CDP indentification: every document talk only about enable/disable feature:

Correct:
We have more than 60 AP, but we enable LLDP only on 2 of this: They also change her name too into MSM (!!!!!, we recange them)
those AP, were discovered twice:
one with correct name, mode "Controlled AP", not linked.
the second with name = MAC, same serial, same IP, mode "Wlan AP" but this is correct linked.

the other non LLDP enabled AP was all discovered with correct name mode "Controlled AP", not linked.

I suspect that if I was able to tell LLDP to use the MSM760 name.... all will work well....

Of course: we have MSM760 and MSM410 AP and all was correctly discovered as device.
The AP is renamed by us in MSM760 from the standard name (the serial number) with our businness naming convention.
What is appened is that:
MSM410 was discovered as device with correct name we gave to it (MSM760 report it) and also serial is present into its info too.
BUT the port the AP was connected to report in the commend "CDP: SGxxxxxxxxxx" (SGxxxxxx is the serial).
The switch and the AP wasn't linked automatically.
Hope this is more clear explained now

Discovery / About MSM controlled AP CDP discovery

With new 1.08 version of NeDI i see all my AP as device, not as controller module anymore: that's good.
Now, it would be nice to see them linked to the correctly switch port.
All our AP was discovered as CDP neighbour on the switches as serial number (i see into port desctiption the row GigabitEthernet1/0/5 CDP:SGxxxxxxxxxx)
Anyway, that AP was discoverd with the devicename assigned by us, and wasn't linked to the router port.

Are there any way to let NeDi autmatically link the AP to the correct switch port?
