Database / slow access
« on: October 02, 2017, 06:51:10 PM »
Hi Folks

Our nedi app seems to have developed an access issue. In many cases when I use the app
to get some device info it responds very quickly. However when I do an interface query the webserver takes forever, a very long time go get the results. I have to believe something is amiss.

I.E. IF name  like gi2/23 is horridly long.....

any ideas on where and how to troubleshoot? I looked at a couple of the system logs and really didn't see anything abnormal. that I could tell

it is a redhat OS 7.3

thanks in advance

Installation / ocassional extra characters in snmp community string
« on: October 13, 2015, 10:16:04 PM »
Hi Folks

below is a sample of a problem I have found. It appears that nedi will occasionally add some characters to the community string.
it always is an @then numbers (see below) the real community string should be just community without any extra characters.
has anyone seen this behavior before? if so what is the problem? below is the tcpdump

thanks

Installation / LDAP - AD Authentication
« on: August 06, 2015, 05:00:59 PM »
Hi Folks

good morning

is there any documentation available on how to setup LDAP authentication for NeDi?
I am only looking to do user authentication not authorization via ldap
perhaps an example nedi.conf with comments about what is needed.

I want to query a Microsoft Domain Controller for the user.

any help appreciated.

Discovery / speeding up discovery
« on: June 08, 2015, 10:22:35 PM »
Hi Folks

another question if I may. Is it possible to speed up the discovery interval? right now I need about 2hrs do
discover everything on the network. I see a reference to "borders" but I don't see a configuration example
or much documentation on configuring this nedi.pl switch. Any one done this? if so can you share some specifics?

thanks

Discovery / discovery and mac addresses
« on: May 20, 2015, 11:08:57 PM »
Hi Folks

here is a good question I have run into. I just started setting up the def files for a new arista 7508 unit.
So far everything seems to get polled into nedi. However there are no MAC addresses for devices that are
attached to the arista interfaces in the nodes tables. Any idea how to get this functionality working

thanks

Definition Files / arista 7500 switches
« on: May 06, 2015, 05:05:22 PM »
Hi Folks

good morning

I hope someone can give me some insight into creating / defining a def file for arista 7508 series. I get the initial sysobjoid of 1.3.6.1.4.1.30065.1.3011.7050.3282.64 but nothing else. I've watched the youtube video which helps a bit. I'm still not sure what OID
I should go after for these devices. I have a mib browser and have access to the mibs from the vendor. I not clear how to tell is the result is what I need when I walk the oid in the definition generator page.

any help or pointers really appreciated......

thanks

Installation / moni
« on: April 16, 2015, 10:28:00 PM »
Hi Folks

I have nedi running on a part of my network. So far it is working fine.
I'm going through looking for stuff that might be broken or having problems.....

in the events window I have the following "information" No successful check at all, is moni running?      what is moni ? and what do I need to do?
I also see a message Node 00000c07ac0a changed IP to 1.2.3.4   this is an hsrp address. which we use....    I think a typeo in nedi.conf?

Installation / more installation

Hi Folks

Good Afternoon....

I have installed nedi on a development machine and have it talking with one of my switches. So far this looks fantastic
I am going through and checking all the menu items etc. I see graphs for temp and memory etc. However when I click on them I don't get any display. I've done some checking in the logs and get the following error in http error.log file

[Mon Apr 13 14:47:31 2015] [error] [client 1.1.1.1] PHP Notice:  Undefined variable: exportxls in /var/nedi/html/inc/header.php on line 247, referer: https://cacti-dev/nedi/Devices-Status.php?dev=Switch
[root@cacti-dev inc]# ls /var/lib/cacti/cli/

the machine also has cacti on it. it is a redhat box. I tried setting the nedi.conf to /usr/bin/rrdtool but that did not make any difference

any ideas what else to check?

Oh, it is running cacti also but at this time I don't wan t to integrate them

Installation / best way to start discovery
« on: April 03, 2015, 03:29:25 PM »
Hi Folks

Good Morning
I’m quite a new with nedi so pardon the stating questions…….
I have quite a large multi-vendor campus network. We are mostly cisco in the access layer and VIP services. The core is force10 and arista, the WAN is a pair of juniper mx2010’s. the wireless is aruba. For firewalls 2we have both cisco asa’s and FWSM; we also have some paloalto firewall units in production. Combined we have approximately 600 network devices excluding VIP phones. There are approximately 3000 VOIP phones of various models from cisco. We run both cdp and / or lldp on most devices.

We want to setup nedi in an optimum fashion for discovery. After looking over some of the documentation, I think the best set of options is to allow arps from the MLS devices, snmp with our read community string configured in the nedi.conf. What other settings would be recommended to maximize the discovery process? Also should I create defgen files before or after the initial discovery? We would like to get all mac addresses, ports, and poe settings from the maximum number of devices on the campus lan.

Any advice appreciated.
